When we switched from ICE’s Rolemaster to Decipher’s Lord of the Rings RPG in one of our groups almost a year ago, we – as Rolemaster veterans – were not completely pleased with this game. Though for example it’s spell grimoire is, in our humble opinion, far more appropriate for roleplaying on Middle-earth than ICE’s Spell Law, we didn’t enjoy certain other aspects of the game. To mention but a few, in our point of view, Player Characters can be abusively high-powered, there are not enough flaws and items to choose from, and combat resolution is too static. For someone who has played Rolemaster for years and years, a game without Critical Strikes simply isn’t appealing, I guess ;) Well, instead of complaining we devised a whole lot of optional rule suggestions we’d like to share with you! Actually, the material in our 43 page LotR COMPENDIUM has been reorganised from previous brochures in anticipation of a new campaign. I won’t list the contents of the Compendium here, but I kindly invite all of you who are playing with Decipher’s game (or who consider to do so) to check out the Decipher section of our website where its most important features are summarised. If you choose to incorporate one or another of our rule suggestions, you may also find the TOOLS file useful. Here is the URL of our website: http://you.are.at/middle-earth Any feedback is most welcome and helpful! Georg & the members of the Gwaith-í-Mirdain |

From what I've seen, the LotR RPG has been axed. Decipher probably won't even release the few modules that were completed (or near completion). -shnar |
