Words from the Wise (Guys)
An Editorial Rant
Welcome
To the twenty-ninth issue of The Guild Companion. This editorial is briefer
than normal because I've spent far too much of June finding somewhere new to live owing to
the unexpected termination of my current tenancy. So I'll postpone my thoughts on the "What Ifs" of
military history and "GURPS Age of Napoleon" play-testing to future editorials.
The Future of Rolemaster and Spacemaster
The process of dismantling ICE and selling the intellectual property has
accelerated from a glacial crawl to an Olympic sprint in the last fortnight. Having
decided that he would like to achieve closure within two months, the Trustee invited
potential buyers to submit bids within two weeks. The Rolemaster Investment Group and
the Golden Oxcart Bandits have been engaged in frantic activity to organize a unified
bid. Another unidentified group is preparing their proposal for Spacemaster.
The deadline for potential buyers to submit their final bids is the end of June /
beginning of July, so this editorial is likely to become very dated very quickly! As news
breaks, we will post updates on the relevant Discussion Boards. The upside is that
Rolemaster, Spacemaster, and perhaps other lines such as Run out the Guns! and Silent Death
will be finally released from the bankruptcy limbo and have the opportunity for a rebirth.
Rocococon Is Coming!
The British Roleplaying Society is running the Rocococon gaming convention from
20-22 July in the delightful surroundings of New Hall, Cambridge (England). Membership
for the complete convention is twenty pounds sterling and single-day passes are
available. The convention committee promise games, panels, a charity auction, a dealers
room and all the usual amenities of food, real ale, soft drinks, accommodation, etc.
To further tempt you, there will be an afternoon session of "Run out the Guns!" on Saturday,
and a playtesting of material from the manuscript known as "GURPS Age of Napoleon" on Sunday.
Naturally both these games will be GMed by yours truly.

I'll be reporting on Rocococon in next month's issue of The Guild Companion.
Farewell (for now ...)
Time for me to let you get on with reading the rest of this month's magazine.
Our next issue will appear in August 2001, but until then,
Keep gaming and have fun!
