Words from the Wise (Guys)

An Editorial Rant

Welcome

To the twenty-fifth issue of The Guild Companion.

The Future of Rolemaster and Spacemaster

The latest news is that the various hopefuls have all submitted their bids for the upcoming auction of ICE's intellectual properties. In an unexpected twist, it appears that ICE failed to send the Trustee a complete breakdown of their copyright and trademark properties in time, so would-be bidders may end up having to tweak and resubmit their bids. The community consortium of IDTiger led by Karl Foelsche and Stephen Lee is taking advantage of this delay to negotiate with other "rival" bidders to form a much stronger joint bid.

As ever, we will keep you updated as news reaches us. Let's hope that the process will come to swift conclusion.

The Future of Shadow World

The Third Edition of the Shadow World Master Atlas has arrived! Terry Amthor's latest masterpiece is available in printed spiral bound and PDF versions from Eidolon Studios now! Jay Howell, our RMSS Technical Wizard and regular Shadow World commentator, will be reviewing the new edition in our April 2001 issue.

One Retirement and Two Appointments

Russ Miller, who has served us well as our Editor for MECCG and Silent Death, has decided to retire from his dual role. He is remaining on The Guild Companion as a staff writer. We can look forward to reading role-playing articles and reviews from him in the near future.

To renew and strengthen our editorial team as well as improve our coverage of both these excellent games, we decided to create distinct Editorships for MECCG and Silent Death.

Our new MECCG Editor is Nigel Buckle, who as a frequent contributor on collectible card games articles and boardgame reviews is no stranger to this magazine. Wearing one of his other hats, Nigel is a member of the Council of Elrond, MECCG fan-based international governing body, and is active in the British tournament scene.

Our new Silent Death Editor is Stephen R. Wilcoxon. Before ICE's bankruptcy, Stephen was a freelance writer and project head for ICE on the Silent Death product line, so he brings a wealth of deep expertise in his subject to his new position with us. Expect to see his debut article for The Guild Companion in the very near future.

Submissions Wanted

You can help keep your favourite games alive and kicking by submitting articles to us. New material is the life-blood for any game, whether it is a role-playing game, collectible card game or war game. Articles on any topic for Rolemaster (all editions), Spacemaster (all editions), Middle Earth Role Playing, and Run out the Guns! will be greatly appreciated. Decks and strategy tips for MECCG are always welcome. New rules, new technology, scenarios, and other additions to the Silent Death game and universe will be gratefully received.

Keep the games alive. Write for them.

Farewell (for now ...)

Our next issue will be released in April 2001, but until then,

Keep gaming and have fun!
Nicholas HM Caldwell
General Editor for The Guild Companion
