Sanction
Monastic Base List (Channeling)

Copyright Ross Henton ©2002

Edited by Lowell R. Matthews for The Guild Companion

Editor's Note: This list is a companion to "Haven" and "Holy Knowledge".

Author's Note: The spells on this list are extremely powerful, and may not be appropriate for all religious faiths. The Monastic who uses these spells must take care—the acts he sanctions must be directly in the best interests of the faith, the church, or the congregation. The lower-level Blessings might be occasionally used to benefit individual members of the faith, but the higher level Blessings are intended for Paladins and those willing to carry out truly great and heroic deeds for the church, just as the higher level Atonements are intended for the most venal of transgressions.

1—Blessing I (F): With this spell, the caster bestows the blessing of his church on any single act, endeavor, or quest the recipient will attempt. The recipient will receive a +5 bonus to all actions directly relating to completing this act. The bonus expires after 24 hours or the completion of the act, whichever comes first.

2—Consecration I (F): With this spell, the caster consecrates any one item to be used in a religious service, a holy war, or any other purpose relating directly to a church-sanctioned activity. The item so consecrated gains a +5 bonus on any resistance rolls it must make (only while used for this specific activity), and gains a +5 bonus versus any attacks made against it (refer to Materials Integrity rules, RC5, section 6.2). This bonus applies until the consecrated item breaks, is desecrated, or is used improperly or for purposes other than that for which it was consecrated.

4—Atonement I (F): With this spell, the caster sets an atonement appropriate to the expiation of any one sin a follower of his faith has committed. The act of atonement must be appropriate for the sin; it can be neither too severe nor too mild (GM's discretion). The atonement set must be of such a nature that it can be reasonably completed within the next 24 hours. The recipient of this spell is at a -5 penalty to all actions not directly relating to the atonement until the task is completed. If the atonement is not completed, the recipient of this spell will have fallen from grace until a substantially more severe atonement is completed.

5—Blessing II (F): As Blessing I, except the bonus is +10, and the blessing will expire after one month or the completion of the act, whichever comes first.

6—Consecration II (F): As Consecration I, except the bonus is +10.

8—Atonement II (F): As Atonement I, except the penalty is -10, and the atonement may take up to one month to complete.

9—Blessing III (F): As Blessing I, except the bonus is +15, and the blessing will expire after two months or the completion of the act, whichever comes first.

10—Consecration III (F): As Consecration I, except the bonus is +15.

12—Atonement III (F): As Atonement I, except the penalty is -15, and the atonement may take up to two months to complete.

13—Blessing IV (F): As Blessing I, except the bonus is +20, and the blessing will expire after one season (normally 90 days) or the completion of the act, whichever comes first.

14—Consecration IV (F): As Consecration I, except the bonus is +20.

16—Atonement IV (F): As Atonement I, except the penalty is -20, and the atonement may take up to one season (normally 90 days) to complete.

17—Blessing V (F): As Blessing I, except the bonus is +25, and the blessing will expire after one year or the completion of the act, whichever comes first.

18—Consecration V (F): As Consecration I, except the bonus is +25.

20—Atonement V (F): As Atonement I, except the penalty is -25, and the atonement may take up to one year to complete.

25—Blessing True (F): As Blessing I, except the bonus is +50, and the blessing will expire only after the completion of the act (however long it takes).

30—Consecration True (F): As Consecration I, except the bonus is +50.

40—Atonement True (F): As Atonement I, except the penalty is -50 and the penalty will last until completion of the atonement (however long it takes).

50—Mass Blessing True (F): As Blessing True, except the caster may bestow the blessing on 1/2 his level (rounded down) in targets.
