Words from the Wise (Guys)
An Editorial Rant
To the forty-first issue of The Guild Companion.
Apologies for lateness
First off, let me apologise for the late publication of last month's issue.
We were expecting to be a little late as our webmaster was on holiday at the turn of the
month; however, his vacation was unexpectedly extended. I know that this month's issue will
probably be turning up a little late too - but that has rather more to do with misbehaving mail systems
and PCs among the editors than absent staff.
Discussion Boards Revamp
We've noticed a substantial decline in the number of postings being made on our
discussion boards over the past couple of months. Understandably, we would like to
reverse this trend.
(As an aside, to locate our discussion boards, click on any "Voices of Reason" link.)
Therefore, we intend in the near future to reorganise the boards in both number and theme.
Some of the existing boards have very little traffic, while other needs of The Guild
Companion are insufficiently served.
Among the planned changes to existing boards, we plan to form a single Rolemaster board to handle
discussions on all editions of the system and a single Middle-Earth Gaming board to cover all topics
concerning MERP, MECCG, and The Lord of The Rings CCG. The Fiction, Software and Silent Death boards
will be subsumed within other boards.
It will be possible to make these adjustments without losing any of the existing or archived
threads in the system, although some temporary disruption can be expected.
We also plan to institute two new boards. The first will be for discussion of magazine issues, giving
you a proper forum to provide feedback on articles, reviews, and fiction. The second will be the
official forum for discussion of The Guild Companion's hybrid d20/Rolemaster products.
Look for these changes happening soon.
Speaking of our commercial modules, we have more good news to report.
The Collector has been completed. It is now with Bruce at ICE for approval;
part of our licensing agreement requires that ICE has an opportunity to double-check that
Rolemaster material has been kept safely apart from d20 System material. Andy and Jarrett
are hard at work on the sequel to The Collector, known as The Rightful Heir.
City of Archendurn is almost complete. It is missing one piece of interior artwork,
and a final conversion to PDF format, but in all other respects, it too is finished.
More news next month.
Farewell (for now ...)
Enough ramblings from me. Time for me to get back to my ever-changing todo list, while you
enjoy this month's issue. Our next issue will appear in August, but until then ...
Keep gaming and have fun!
