FORMATION COMBAT

Category: Combat Maneuvers

Optional Stats Used: Ag/Qu/SD

Exhaustion Point Cost: 1 every 4 rounds

Description:

This skill allows a combatant to use his skills as part of a formation of trained soldiers. It includes understanding close order drill and marching commands and the combatant's role in them. The OB of any attack cannot be greater than the Formation Combat bonus, and the characters Qu does not apply to DB. The front row of soldiers has a DB bonus of +20 in addition to other DB bonuses, any parry amount is doubled, and they cannot be attacked from the flank or rear. The second row may not be attacked at all and may attack using pole arms and missile weapons. Any individual fighting in a formation without using this skill suffers a -20 to -50 penalty (depending on how crowded the situation is), cannot apply Qu to DB (as above), and causes adjacent combatants to lose the +20 DB bonus from Formation Combat.

SHIPBOARD COMBAT

Category: Combat Maneuvers

Optional Stats Used: Ag/Qu/Ag

Exhaustion Point Cost: 1 every 4 rounds

Description:

This skill allows a combatant to use his skills on a boat or ship. It includes anticipating the roll of the ship in missile combat, and the ability to use the ship's motion for an advantage in melee. The OB of any attack cannot be greater than the Shipboard Combat bonus. If an individual does not have this skill, he must make maneuver rolls prior to each round of combat at sea to stay on his feet unless the sea is totally calm. The difficulty of the maneuver roll is influenced by wave size/wind speed and the size of vessel.

Editor's note: Alternatively, apply the difficulty modifiers directly to the Shipboard Combat total skill bonus. A maneuver roll is only required after a fumble.

Routine .. Large ship or barge on a lake. Very Hard .. Large/Med ship on rough seas
Easy ... Large ship on calm seas Extremely Hard Small ship on rough seas
Light .... Medium ship on calm seas Sheer Folly . Small boat on rough sea Large ship in a storm
Medium .. Small ship on calm seas Absurd ... Large ship in a hurricane Small ship in a storm
Hard ... Small boat on calm seas

Note: If a combatant using a combat maneuver (mounted combat, formation combat, shipboard combat) misses his opponent completely (does no damage or critical) roll an attack against a random being or large item in the vicinity. The OB of the attack is 100 - combat maneuver skill + weapon quality bonus
