Extra HARP Spells

"The target of this spell forgets everything that happens to him"

A request was made on the ICE forums regarding how best to emulate a number of the spells of the Seer profession, notably Anticipations spells, Thought Steal, Vision Guide and Evoke Vision. This article is in response to that request.

After some consideration, I decided that the most efficient way of dealing with Vision Guide and Evoke Vision was to convert them into scaling options for the existing HARP Past Visions spell. Thought Steal required a new spell that would be appropriate to both Mystics and Harpers. The set of Anticipations spells required a new base spell and scaling options.

DESCRIPTION: Caster gains a vision of up to 1 hour per rank into the past. He may set the start time of the vision at any point within this range and the vision then proceeds, taking as much time as the original event did. The target of the vision may be any person, place, or thing that the caster is touching when this spell is cast. The caster will only be able to see what could normally be seen if he were in the location of the vision at that time. The vision will last only as long as the caster concentrates. Two of the scaling options are special. By using the Visible Vision scaling option, the caster may make the vision appear in a medium (a crystal ball, mirror, pool, cloudy sky, etc.) - this vision is visible to anyone who can see the medium. The caster must have a medium for this to work. By choosing the Vision Guide scaling option, the caster gains a sense of when important events may have taken place in the history of the target and can use this to set the temporal starting point of the vision - note the significant event must have occurred in the temporal interval selected when the spell is cast.

Amnesia

DESCRIPTION: The target of this spell forgets everything that happens to him while this spell is active, e,g. if this spell is active for seven rounds, on the eighth round the victim will have no memory of what happened to them in the prior seven rounds. The spell also has a special scaling option, Forget Past. By using the option, the caster may selectively delete the victim's existing memories at a rate of one per round. These memories may be no older than one hour per skill rank possessed by the caster in this spell. A scene for the purpose of this spell is a memory associated to a given location and time frame (i.e. yesterday afternoon in the library) and a scene could be anything from a few seconds to an hour in duration. To effectively use this option, the caster will need to have successfully used Mind Reading (see Codex) with a probe scaling option against the target. To increase how far back into the past, the caster may remove memories, the caster will need to use an Increase Interval option in addition to Forget Past.

Anticipations

DURATION: 2 rounds
SPELL TYPE: Attack
RR: Magic
SPHERES: Mystic

DESCRIPTION: The caster learns what the most probable actions of the target will be in general terms for the duration of this spell. Thus the caster could learn whether the target will attack in the next round, but not who, or that the target will prepare or cast a spell, but not which spell or who is the intended target. By using the Specific Knowledge scaling option, the caster gains more detailed information, e.g. who is the target of a spell or an attack, which spell will be used, etc.

GM's Note: In game terms, at the start of each round when this spell is active, the player or GM controlling the target of this spell must declare the target's action before the player or GM controlling the caster need declare the caster's action. The target of this spell can change their mind but all penalties for changing actions must be applied.
