Welcome

To the 117th issue of The Guild Companion.

Guild Adventurer #3 Ransom Call and other updates

The third issue of The Guild Adventurer survived its full editing pass, Rick Hansen has already been commissioned to create new art for it, and Andrew Ridgway will be giving it his layout expertise as soon as he's finished with the 2nd edition of City of Archendurn and the new Dun Cru module. Hence we have issued the ransom call for Guild Adventurer #3.

It will contain:

  • The Keeper of the Thorn (for Shadow World and Rolemaster (all editions), by Terry Amthor)
  • The Quiet Time (for Echoes of Heaven and Rolemaster/HARP, by Robert Defendi)
  • Identity Theft (for Spacemaster: Privateers, by Robert Defendi)
  • Dust to Dust (for Rolemaster (all editions) and HARP, by Marc Rosen)
  • Sweating the Small Stuff: Money (GMing advice and adventure ideas, by Laura Trauth and Terence Wynne)

We are seeking 100 pledges to buy TGA#3. To simplify everyone's lives, we're doing this as a simple honour system. If you want to pledge to buy a copy, simply send me an email to: editor at guildcompanion dot com and tell me inside the email what name you would like to be acknowledged as a Patron by in the published work. We intend to retail TGA#3 at 8 US dollars for the pdf version and it will be available at all three of our outlets, guild.ironcrown.com, www.rpgnow.com and www.YourGamesNow.com

So far, we have received 27 pledges so just over a quarter of the way to our target.

As you'll have deduced, we intend to rerelease City of Archendurn, with RM Classic and HARP stats replacing d20 mechanics, and we'll also be publishing Dun Cru finally. It may seem a trifle strange for us to be ramping up our publication schedule when the outlook for every economy around the world is so bleak, but there's method in our madness. City of Archendurn has to be rereleased as the d20 System license goes away in December and we'd have to withdraw Archendurn from sale if we don't have a replacement. Dun Cru is a module that has been promised for years and as such its limbo status has been annoying me personally. I want to see it published and soon.

Speaking of projects that have been in a limbo status, Terry Amthor, having flexed his layout muscles on Xa-ar, is taking over the layout of the OGL Edition of the Shadow World Master Atlas personally. I spent a number of evenings adding extra material from the System Reference Document to replace former references to the 3.x Monster Manual, and Terry now has the layout project underway. Yes, I know 4e D&D is here, but it does not seem to have set the world on fire, the Open Gaming License is much friendlier than the Game System License, and a market remains for 3.x gaming. And it's another project that's been on the "coming soon" list for far too long.

10th Anniversary Imminent

The 10th anniversary of The Guild Companion will be upon us next month - yes, really, we've been publishing this magazine since December 1998. If you'd like a contribution to feature in next month's issue (and it does not have to involve the number "ten"), then get writing and get submitting right now!

Farewell for now ...

Enough ramblings from me. I have a chapter on demons for Something Wicked that I'd like to write and the penultimate scenario for my HARP Sci Fi campaign to stat up. We'll be back in December with issue 118 and our tenth anniversary, but until then …

Keep gaming and have fun,
