To the 131st issue of The Guild Companion. A Happy New Year to all our readers.

New Year, New World Order

As you may have heard or read in the press release on our forums or elsewhere, I have formed a company, Guild Companion Publications Ltd, and the HARP SciFi product line has been transferred from Mjolnir/New ICE to Guild Companion Publications Limited. This is now agreed in practice.

The December editorial was about giving HARP SF fans hope. This editorial is about providing news about what's being worked on regarding HARP SF.

To begin with, we will be renaming "HARP SciFi" to "HARP SF" for greater consistency with "HARP SF Xtreme". "HARP SF" is the bulk of the HARP SciFi manuscript that beta testers will have seen. It excludes chapters on vehicles, vehicular combat, cyberware and cybertech - these will appear in "HARP SF Xtreme".

Over Christmas, I went back to my complete manuscript and made some final polishes to the chapters that will form HARP SF. Specifically I threw out the stat gain rolls option, corrected the DP costs for a number of Talents that had been undercosted or overpriced, and tidied some rules areas that weren't quite right after discussion with domain experts. I have since fissioned the manuscript into its two components, and ensured that the linkages and references within and outwith HARP SF are correct. That document is currently being checked for residual errors and typos by some eagle-eyed individuals.

Meanwhile Andrew Ridgway and I have organised ourselves with regard to tabular formats. I'm busy extracting Word tables, giving them a good beating and shipping Excel versions to Andrew, while Rick Hansen produces more marvellous interior illustrations.

It's all about the teamwork.

Once we have all HARP SF chapters finalised for text and tables, I'll then be turning my attention to HARP SF Xtreme and giving that product some additional material and much-needed linkage text, so that it is more than four orphaned chapters. Then the whole process of checking, table extraction, artwork and layout will kick off for HARP SF Xtreme.

As the locus of effort shifts from areas that only I can do, then I'll be able to return my attention to other projects. In particular, Something Wicked is tantalisingly close to being a complete draft and ready for handover to a GCP editor. For the avoidance of doubt, Something Wicked will be a Guild Companion Publications Ltd product as well. The first of our Shadow World Player's Guides is hurtling towards a fully complete manuscript. The fourth issue of The Guild Adventurer is awaiting its final contribution - Terry realised that the plot of his Shadow World adventure was starting to require GMs to have access to Emer III (which isn't finished yet!) and so has had to rejig things to avoid paradox.

Farewell for now ...

I have more tables to extract, so I'll leave you to enjoy the rest of this month's issue. We'll be back in February with issue 132, but until then ...

Keep gaming and have fun,
