Beauty's Refrain

"It is fatedbeauty shall die."

It is fated—
      beauty shall die—
death unsated
      as the worm and sigh
of lovers fain
to die in vain.

My witch knows this—
      beauty shall die—
seeks a true bliss
      as vainly as cry
injustice waits
with iron gates.

Philters drunken—
      beauty shall die—
vainly sunken,
      for vanity's lie—
all things decay
and go their way.

Creams and tinctures—
      beauty shall die—
bows and cincture,
      and laces and tie—
the weird's bondmaid,
the body, fades.

It is fated—
      beauty shall die—
death unsated
      as the worm and sigh
of lovers fain
to die in vain.
